Learning in Sheffield with the National Trust

We worked in partnership with the National Trust and ARUP to deliver some SuDS training in Sheffield on November 16th. The day was split between classroom work, considering the types of SuDS devices that might be useful for the Trust, and site visits to see SuDS in action and to give the teams ideas. It is excellent to see an organisation like the National Trust taking their sustainability responsibilities seriously, and we talked about ways to use SuDS to protect their properties and to manage water on site. But we also talked about using SuDS schemes to create muddy-play, mazes and other spaces to attract visitors to visit in the rain, or to spend longer on site. The whole team were full of ideas and the ARUP team showed us around the excellent bioremediation zones in the city centre, which provide stormwater management and flood risk management whilst also creating beautiful, buzzing gardens! Our second trip was to Manor Fields Park which is a landscape-scale SuDS design which inspired our friends from the National Trust, who could see opportunities to replicate these ideas on some of their sites.

Do you have a National Trust property near your home? Maybe plan a visit in the rain and see how they manage their stormwater!
