The event will include 4 speakers who will talk about what they have been doing on this topic:

  • Prof Jamie Woodward, The University of Manchester, is an expert on microplastic pollution and has recently featured in the documentary ‘Plastic Warriors’ as well as the BBC series ‘Our Troubled Rivers’ with Paul Whitehouse.
  • John Sanders, Mersey Rivers Trust, has recently helped run a plastic pollution survey on the River Mersey catchment and will discuss the project and its conclusions.
  • Jo Bradley, Stormwater Shepherds, will outline some of the diverse ways that plastic can get into our waterways, such as highways run-off as well as some of the ways to prevent it.
  • David Cole, Penstock Solutions, will speak about the importance of containment at source for businesses and present a case study detailing the engineering controls implemented at a plastic manufacturing company.
