Visiting mature SuDS to see how they are getting on

A group of people talking about SuDS

It was brilliant to visit the Sheffield Grey-to-Green SuDS last week with Roger Nowell and Zak Tudor who were part of the team that designed and installed them. It was a great opportunity to ask questions and to learn from the experts. I particularly liked the linear SuDS with over-the-edge drainage treating the road runoff in the City Centre. This device takes all the runoff from the busy road, capturing the pollutants and holding the water back to reduce flood risk in the city.

We could see during the visit that the local flying insects were enjoying all the flowering plants and the shade from the trees was creating cooler places in the City. This scheme illustrates what can be done when the right team is created. The visits were all part of the susdrain annual awards event and it was lovely to meet up with old friends and to meet new people. You can see the susdrain Prize Winning SuDS schemes on their website here soon: https://www.susdrain.org/ Maybe you could submit one of your SuDS schemes for an award next year?
