Webinar Opportunity: New & Innovative FundingWebinar: Models for the Correct Management of Stormwater Assets

Stormwater Shepherds is delighted to present a second webinar ‘New & Innovative Funding Models for the Correct Management of Stormwater Assets’ hosted by SPEL. Presented by Mary Rayner (Director of Operations, Stormwater Shepherds), registration is now open for March 31st – 11:30 AM AEST / 12:30 PM AEDT.

Mary Rayner will address the many funding issues facing councils, present successful stormwater funding models from Germany, Canada and the USA. Building on the work of Stormwater Shepherds in building awareness for stormwater issues, the webinar will focus on how these innovative funding models can be used to improve the management of key stormwater assets.

With guest speaker, Dr Victoria Kramkowski, this overview of stormwater charges will be accompanied by a detailed case study of the successful implementation of an award-winning funding model in Dr Kramkowski’s hometown of Mississauga, Canada.

Dr Kramkowski will share her passion for stormwater management, and extensive experience administrating stormwater charges and incentive programs in both residential and non-residential properties. A key advocate for user-pay funding models across Canada, Dr Kramkowski was a major driving force behind Mississauga’s program.

Why consider new funding models for stormwater?

Innovative funding models play an important role in managing the ever-increasing value of stormwater assets. Appropriate funding leads to better water quality outcomes, economic, leisure and tourism benefits and the preservation of habitats – creating substantial job growth across the industry.

Helping save our waterways and keep them pollution-free, Stormwater Shepherds supports implementing systems that raise revenue and funding for stormwater systems. This webinar is an excellent opportunity to learn about how we can foster these types of programs within our communities.

Approximately 80% of plastic in our ocean originates upstream with a host of other pollutants – including rubber granules, chemicals, sediment, organic matter and heavy metal contaminants. Our stormwater systems help protect our vulnerable waterways and ecosystems. These systems sequester these pollutants, keeping them out of our rivers and oceans.

By managing our stormwater assets properly and implementing systems that generate the funding for their maintenance, we can ensure that our waterways are protected and that our stormwater infrastructure can continue to work for future generations.
