One of the jobs of Stormwater Shepherds UK is to take part in public consultations from infrastructure operators, water companies and similar to represent the voice of good stormwater management. At the moment the water companies in England and Wales are consulting on their Drainage and Wastewater Management Plans (DWMPs). The Plans must describe the capacity of the sewerage system of each Company and identify the risks associated with the system over the next 5, 10 and 25 years, taking into account the changes in the catchment and the predicted impacts of climate change. The Plan must then set our how the risks will be managed, mitigated or eliminated. We are taking this opportunity to remind water companies that good stormwater management will reduce the risks of overwhelming their sewers, will reduce the volume of overflows, will reduce the cost of pumping and will return the water to the water environment. We hope that by taking part in workshops and responding to the consultations, we can keep stormwater management high on every bodies agenda. If you are interested in drainage and sewerage, have a look at your local plan; it will be available on your water company’s website. Photo credit: Dwr Cymru
